  • KOTS - KNOWLEDGE OF THE SEAS
KOTS is an immersive learning simulator, which will accompany and guide the user in his learning journey with the acquisition of the procedures and methodology to be implemented to diagnose failures on the production and propulsion system....

  • The cruise ship designed, operates in the waters of French Polynesia.
It was delivered in 1998 by a shipyard in France.
It is powered by an electric propulsion system on the 2 lines of PORT and STARBOARD shafts.
The power supply to the on-board network is provided by a set of 4 Diesel/Alternator Groups.

The single-line diagram of the on-board electrical network is composed of:
    1. Diesel-Alternator
    2. Main Table MT
    3. Distribution Transformer
    4. Harmonic filter
    5. Bow thruster
    6. Propulsion transformer
    7. Synchronous converter
    8. Electric propulsion motor

Each of the two (2) electric propulsion motors has the following characteristics:
    - Type: synchronous
    - Rated electrical power: 4.5 MW
    - Nominal rotational speed: 180 rpm
    - Maximum rotational speed: 190 rpm
    - Each of the electric propulsion motors is powered by a synchronous frequency converter.

The performance of the converter control system is incredible. Up to the rated speed, the power converter can deliver to the propulsion motor, a motor torque greater than the resistant torque of the shaft line. Note that at the nominal speed of 180 rpm, the nominal torque corresponds to an electrical power of 4.5 MW. Due to the capacity of the on-board network, the maximum speed that can be reached is 190 rpm. In operation in degraded 1/2 motor mode, the converter can deliver 50% of the total torque to the propulsion engine.
Since the propeller is of the fixed pitch type, each propulsion motor rotates in both directions (the minimum speed in both directions is 10 rpm). Rear torque is limited to 60%. (Speed reference of about 100 rpm).

During the navigation in the open sea, a trigger takes place on the area of the machines on board the ship, your mission:

Learn how to diagnose damage and pass the certifying assessment.
