Excellent start for the hot-strip plant at the new NMDC steel plant in India
NMDC Steel Ltd. relied on thin-slab technology to enter the steel production business. The new hot strip mill is part of the new NMDC steel complex, located at Nagarnar, in Chhattisgarh, India, and it is designed to produce 2.9 million tons per year of hot-rolled coils, in strip thicknesses ranging from 16 mm down to 1.0 mm, widths from 900 to 1650 mm, in coils weighing up to 35 tons. This is the first steel plant in India featuring vertical-curved casters and a hot-strip mill with separation between roughing and finishing.

Advanced continuous casting with an innovative solution for mould level control 
The recent development of a mould level control technology is considered as a ground-breaking model for establishing the ideal caster roll geometry already at the design stage. It utilizes advanced mathematical methods for next-level caster-design optimization and reduces unsteady bulging by 50 percent. As a result, it allows for higher casting speeds and greater productivity while producing slabs of reliable and high quality.

Strip processing

Long-term experience of active chatter damping at cold rolling mills
Chatter management can be understood as a basic concept to operate a rolling mill at low vibration levels in order to achieve maximum speeds and production. Among the tools and measures necessary to reach this aim are a chatter monitoring system and an active chatter damping system. An overview from the general idea of the system up to operational and long-term results of the pilot installation is given. Especially by the demonstrated operational results, the great potential of active vibration damping for cold rolling mills is shown.

thyssenkrupp Steel decarbonizes batch annealing plant
Bell-type annealing plants have so far been mainly operated with natural gas. Recently, 70 t of steel strip were fossil-free heat-treated in a bell-type annealing plant at German steel strip manufacturer thyssenkrupp for the first time in the world. In production trials, the fuel gas supply for the annealing plant was gradually shifted from natural gas to up to 100% hydrogen to assess the influence of increased hydrogen admixtures on the overall system. Up to 2600 kg of CO2 can be saved per annealing cycle by using regenerative produced hydrogen, while maintaining productivity and product properties.

Digital solution for low-carbon metals procurement
Suppliers and customers of the European materials distribution units of thyssenkrupp Material Services can now access on-demand product carbon footprints using a new carbon traceability and intensity tool. The new digital solution will provide carbon reports for better decision-making in terms of low-carbon procurement. Comprehensive "cradle-to-customer" calculations inform about the decarbonisation strategies across the supply chain.

Sustainable Steel Application and products

Low carbon-emissions rails
Rail transport is already considered climate-friendly. However, rails produced from low-CO2 steel enable rail network operators to drastically reduce their carbon emissions even further. The French subsidiaries of the Saarstahl Group, Saarstahl Rail and Saarstahl Ascoval, are currently the only providers throughout Europe to have scrutinized conventional processes and production methods, and then develop decarbonized rails. In close alliance with the state-owned railroad operator in France (SNCF - Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer Français), Saarstahl Rail has been successfully implementing the low-CO2 rail concept in practice. In the meantime, further railroad network operators and infrastructure firms have awarded Saarstahl Rail contracts for “green” rails worth millions of Euros.

Low carbon-emissions steel for offshore wind park in the Baltic Sea
Vestas, the energy industry’s global partner on sustainable energy solutions, has established a partnership with ArcelorMittal to launch a low carbon-emissions steel offering that significantly reduces the lifetime carbon dioxide emissions from the production of wind turbine towers. It will make its first delivery of heavy plates to an offshore wind farm project realised by Baltic Power in Poland.

Radar-based molten metal level measurement technology
A rugged radar sensor measures the level of molten metal at temperatures up to 1,600°C with high accuracy and sampling rate. The sensor does not normally require active cooling. An optional rugged housing provides additional protection. Linked to automation systems, the radar solution enables increased productivity and safety.
 
JSW Steel to invest in a second casting and direct rolling plant
Indian steel producer JSW Steel will implement CSP® Nexus technology at the Dolvi Works on the west coast of Maharashtra. The plant, the third of its kind worldwide, not only promises maximum productivity but also expands the product mix in terms of widths and thicknesses, i.e. to include plate products up to 2,600 millimeters width. For the first time, both hot strip and plate in these dimensions can be produced on one mill, meaning maximum flexibility.
 
Industrial development of hydrogen-based direct reduction receipts
A direct reduction test facility will be erected at thyssenkrupp Steel's steel works in Duisburg, Germany. The project aims to advance research and development into the hydrogen-based direct reduction of iron ore. The test facility will have a production capacity of 100 kg DRI per hour. It shall investigate the capabilities to operate with different types of feed stock and use various reduction gases.
 
Mega class factory for refractories to be erected in Tennessee

Among other things, the line is designed for top grades with particularly thin dimensions, starting from 0.20 mm, for use in energy-efficient electric motors for electric mobility, as well as products with highly reactive, modern adhesive insulating varnishes.

Alleima, a leading manufacturer of high value-added products in advanced stainless steels, special alloys, has decided to implement Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and will be one of the first companies to provide product-specific carbon footprint for rock drill steel products for the mining industry. Each product will be certified with a third-party verified carbon footprint.

In addition to the corresponding file name, we require an exact order for each data carrier or file transfer as well as printouts and, in the case of colour advertisements, proofs that are binding for printing with the necessary details. In the case of FTP transmissions, we request the corresponding advertising order, enclosing a copy of the advertising motif, to be sent
simultaneously by fax to the number given below. The deadline for the acceptance of advertisements and the delivery date for print documents specified in the media information shall also apply to advertisements delivered digitally (see AMF Schedule T „Schedule and Topic Plan“).

Graphics/other imports:
If graphics or scans are placed in the display, these imports must be included
in any case. The graphics or image files in the original program must also be saved separately on data carriers. They should not contain any compressions, raster images should have a resolution of at least 300 dpi, line images 1200 dpi.
Permissible graphic formats: the usual EPS, TIFF or BMP files.

Colour advertisements/receipts/proofs:
A binding expression is required for each side to be exposed. For colour advertisements with special colours (Pantone, HKS), colour-separated printouts with the exact colour designations are required. For the printing of advertisements in Euroscale (CMYK), a proof is absolutely necessary. Colour prints from the colour copier are not binding.

Only what is available on the data carrier can be exposed. The publisher accepts no liability for deviations in texts, illustrations and especially colours. The printing of colour advertisements without a proof is without guarantee. We assume that the files sent and handed over to us are copies
