 Press Releases

  • Ladle rebricking / relining platforms have replaced the traditional scaffolding used in the re-bricking process at many steel foundries as a safer and more reliable option. Refractory firebrick in pour ladles require continual replacement and the Handling Specialty ladle lift was designed as the perfect solution. The lift is loaded into the ladle using a crane, and can be moved to the next ladle requiring re-bricking. These two stage scissor lifts are designed to withstand harsh melt shop environments, improving efficiency in the factory.

This custom model also includes three sets of aluminum extensions which connect on the lip along the outside of the platform. Each extension allows for larger size ladles to be re-bricked, whether oval or round.

The heavy–duty scissor lift raises and lowers the operator and bricks via a hand-held controller for ease of operation while handling loads of up to 10,000 lbs.

  • Move your raw steel through the foundry with an automatically guided vehicle. Customized for the iron & steel industry, these AGVs are built to withstand the environmental challenges of the steel industry.

Custom tooling allows the steel to be placed and the AGV to autonomously pick up the heavy load and move it from point A to B and anywhere in-between through pre-programmed commands.

  • Ladle transfer cars are used to carry hot metal ladles for transfer within the plant. Handling Specialty manufactures transfer cars for all manner of industry from automotive to steel and engineer their handling equipment for reliability.  Steel is where their robust designs and custom engineering is especially valued. With weight capacities of up to 300 tons, a ladle transport car is required to carry much heavier loads than most, and Handling Specialty cars are designed to handle the full range of your mill-duty needs.

  • Handling Specialty reached a new weight capacity limit for its automated destacking scissor-lift solutions with this project.  Two hydraulic destacking lifts were engineered-to-order, each with 60,000 lbs capacity.  The lifts, built to automotive specifications, are used for precise and controlled destacking and transferring of steel sheeting.

Mechanically-encoded to a system PLC, the lifts automatically engage to the correct elevation of the pass line. This results in fine increments of adjustment and high reliability for repeat performance.  The lifts are self-propelled along rails by a traversing electric friction drive controlled by a variable frequency drive (VFD).

  • Move your raw steel through the foundry with a manually guided vehicle. Customized for the iron & steel industry, these MGVs are built to withstand the environmental challenges of the steel industry.

Custom tooling allows the steel to be placed and the MGV to autonomously pick up the heavy load and move it from point A to B and anywhere in-between via the handheld control pendant. The operator walks along side the MGV guiding it and its cargo with an easy to use control pendant. The pendant can be wired to the unit or made for wireless operation.
