  • CoreTemp
CoreTemp is a system that allows the electric furnace operator to measure temperature along with other valuable attributes of the furnace throughout the melting process. CoreTemp uses innovative optical fiber technologies....

  • CoreTemp was developed to assist the electric furnace steelmaker to solve some fundamental safety and operations challenges:

    · Reduce operator (people) exposure to molten metal  by keeping personnel off the operating floor during temperature and level measurements

    · Improve process management with more data available more rapidly than traditional measurement methods

    · Save energy by keeping slag door closed, improving foamy slag retention

    · Determine if and when all scrap is melted

    · Detect un-melted scrap in sump area, avoiding delays from tap hole freezes

    · Safely measure level and temperature of residual heel

  • CasTemp Superheat
CasTemp Superheat is a development of the established CasTemp Wireless system using QUBE modules to deliver the CasTemp and CasTip measurements; providing an economical and reliable dynamic superheat value promising greater accuracy than existing methods....

  • Dynamic superheat control is essential for optimizing the continuous casting process, requiring knowledge of the tundish temperature above liquidus. Good control of superheat will help ensure high quality production and productivity. Liquid steel temperature is obtained using the CasTemp “through the wall” continuous temperature measurement, which is optimally sited near the tundish outlets. Therefore the liquidus has to be accurately and consistently measured to ensure a viable dynamic superheat for casting operations, and future enhancements such as automated speed control. Liquidus is measured by the direct reading CasTip liquidus sensor.CasTemp Superheat is a development of the established CasTemp Wireless system, and combines a QUBE CTW module and QUBE CasTip to deliver the CasTemp and CasTip measurements; providing an economical and reliable dynamic superheat value promising greater accuracy than existing methods. The system is wireless and it is designed with a simple connection protocol to ensure robust synchronization built on the existing CasTemp Wireless system protocol. A configurable user interface (UI) can be easily adapted to provide a digital superheat display suitable for shop floor operation, or graphical trending for use in the control room.

  • ArMor
The ArMOR clean steel sampling system purges the sample chamber with argon gas, to keep the sample free of slag, cap constituents, and air entrapment. The same gas flow is used to ensure the sampler fills with the most representative steel is collected....

  • Modern steelmaking demands the highest levels of process control to improve efficiency while meeting ever increasing customer expectations. This starts with the highest quality, most representative steel sample.  Conventional immersion samples are subject to contamination by slag, constituents of the capping, steel to atmospheric reaction, and a proper depth of immersion is that can never be guaranteed. These intermittent and difficult to detect problems lead to non-representative samples, causing process delays or further issues downstream. The ArMOR clean steel sampling system purges the sample chamber with argon gas, to keep the sample free of slag, cap constituents, and air entrapment. The same gas flow is used for depth detection, ensuring the sampler fills at the proper location, so only the highest quality, most representative steel is collected. The intuitive interface, flexible sampler designs, and low cost system makes it a logical choice for all applications, from ladle stations to degassers to AODs along with caster molds and tundishes.

  • Delta Dist L Slag
The Delta-Dist L sensor now provides the steelmaker not only with a reliable slag thickness, but also measures the freeboard and correct bath level....

  • The Delta Dist L sensor works in a two step method. Initially, by immersing the lance into the ladle, the slaglevel is detected with the use of a small metal contact
strip. This metal strip provides the initial contact withthe slag.  As the probe continues downward with the immersion, it will penetrate through the slag. Then, inside the metal the Delta Dist L sensor with a coil, is utilized for steel detection where a small current runs through it. The characteristics of this current will however dramatically change once the presence of steel is detected. This current change is immediately detected by the latest generation of Heraeus Electro-Nite instrumentation and translated into slag thickness.  Finally, the Delta Dist L sensor provides the steel-maker with slag thickness, freeboard and steel bath level with only one sensor immersion.

    Benefits:

Correct information on freeboard, slag thickness and bath level in one sensor

    • Compatible with existing Celox lance hardware
    • Easy to use
    • Eliminates safety concerns vs. traditional slag depth measuring
    • Measurement time is less than 2 seconds
    • Slag depth measures accurately to within +/- 0.5 inch (1 to 2cm)
    • Well rinsed slag will enable the most accurate slag thickness measurements possible

The Delta Dist L is typically used in two applications in a modern steel shop.

Ladle — The traditional application is in transfer or processing ladles. The size and shape of these ladles is not of relevance to the application of this technology. Precise Metal level can be determined along with slag thickness and freeboard

Electric Furnace — Another successful application of this technology is in an Electric Melting Furnace. Precise metal level is a challenging point to measure. The Delta Dist Technology can afford an operation to routinely make accurate metal level measurements in-situ
