• SARRALLE starts up new CCM for STEEL DYNAMICS INC. (SDI) in the USA (Mar 29, 2021)

  SARRALLE has successfully completed the first of a three-phase project intended to upgrade and modernize the continuous caster at STEEL DYNAMIC INC. (SDI) Roanoke Virgina, one of the premier steel producers in the North American market. After completion, the upgrade will provide SDI with a state-of-the-art continuous casting machine that will be the key to new markets, not currently served, allowing them to produce higher quality steel grades.

  The project awarded to SARRALLE by SDI will consist of critical process equipment modernization and automation which the American group intends to complete in three phases. The first phase, entrusted to SARRALLE entirely, includes engineering, manufacturing, assembly supervision, commissioning and testing. Work began in July of 2018, and the project will reach its completion after a very short two week outage this May. This first phase has been exclusively devoted to modernizing the mid-section of the machine to provide operational consistency and improved product quality. The associated automation support equipment will also be supplied in an environmentally controlled stand alone container, pretested, and installed in place prior to the outage. All the work is based on the SDI concept of building each of the three phases without back tracking or equipment redesigns.

  This is the first significant project for SARRALLE in the United States, opening up possibilities to supply steel makers with SARRALLE designed melt shop and rolling mill equipment from their company owned fabrication shops in Northern Spain.

  SARRALLE Processing Lines is proud to announce the Acceptance of the revamping of ThyssenKrupp Materials Processing Europe (TKMPE) - El Puig’s automatic packaging line in Valencia (Spain). CHECK OUR VIDEO here!

  As previously announced the project was awarded in October 2019 and scheduled to be released on April 2020. However, due to the worldwide health crisis, the work was finally delivered on June last year. Since then, the outcome of our intervention has been outstanding and SARRALLE is glad to disclose our capabilities of delivering our job on time and quality.  This was possible thanks to the total control of SARRALLE's supply chain. Even at uncertain times, we are able to overcome any obstacle, through our flexible manufacturing. It's pertinent to remark the joint collaboration of ThyssenKrupp towards the success of the project, none of the achievements would have been possible without their unconditional support. 

  The scope of work of the turnkey project included the mechanical and electrical engineering, automatization, own manufacturing of the equipment, assembly, commissioning and start-up of the automatic packaging line.

  SARRALLE Processing Line’s intervention cleared up the precedent bottle neck. The new packaging line leads to cost savings by increasing the productivity of the evacuation. The process automation, significantly enhanced the speed of packaging and evacuation. Our commitment and ambition exceeded Thyssenkrupp’s productivity ratio expectations, providing wider capabilities in terms of quality and dimensions to our partner with the greatest added value products.

  As a result, we can assure the type of validation services our customers need for sensitive projects such as the one described, with low investment and a qualitative escalation.

• New Complete GREENFIELD Meltshop Plant at AM/NS Calvert (USA) (Mar 08, 2021)

  Sarralle takes a great leap forward with the award of a new project for ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel Corporation, and a major one in terms of its characteristics and size. It is a GREENFIELD project to build a complete plant to manufacture high-technology steel for AM/NS Calvert in Mobile, Alabama. The plant will be commissioned in H1 2023, and will have a production capacity of 1.5 million tns. slabs of high-quality steel.

  For Sarralle, the start-up of the steelmaking facility represents a major milestone, as it is one of the most technologically advanced steel plant in the world, both in terms of production (due to its capacity and quality) and environmental impact.

  This has been made possible thanks to the experience, know-how and capability shown by Sarralle in its 55 years of activity in the steelmaking sector.

  THE SMARTEST STEEL IN THE WORLD

  The project is part of a 775-million-dollar expansion plan by AM/NS Calvert in Mobile County that started in February 2021 for a period of 24 months and will allow AM/NS Calvert to produce 1.5 million tns. slabs of steel from its own facility. One of its main clients will be the automotive sector.

  The plant will include the following latest-generated equipment by Sarralle:

  • Sarralle Blue Efficient Arc, a 180-tonne DC Electric Arc Furnace.

  • A 180-tonne Twin Ladle Furnace.

  • A material handling plant to supply a series of workstations, including the addition of pre-reduced materials to the Electric Arc Furnace.

  • Sarralle Bluesky Plant, the latest-generation fume treatment system by Sarralle.

  • The Statcom system, to comply with the strictest requirements of the power grid.

  • Other auxiliary equipment that complements the main ones mentioned above.

  The state-of-the-art equipment incorporates the most advanced technologies to create a smarter, automated, environment-friendly, efficient and safe plant.

  As for safety, the design of the equipment includes a number of technological solutions to ensure safe operations: solutions such as the automatic opening of the EBT, automatic filling of the EBT, an automatic slag door, a sample-collecting robot and autotapping system, among others.

  From the environmental point of view, the plant represents a major milestone because it allows more efficient operation of the equipment, and greater sustainability, among other benefits.

  MORE COMPETITIVE

  The new strategic greenfield plant supplied by Sarralle will enable AM/NS Calvert to improve its competitive position in the international market, as well as generate a major economic impact in the State of Alabama through the creation of 200 direct and 100 indirect jobs for the operation of the plant. Furthermore, it is expected that 500 jobs will be created in the assembly and start-up phases during the construction period of the plant.

  ARCELORMITTAL AND SARRALLE

  The relationship between ArcelorMittal and Sarralle is one of stable cooperation and trust over the last 55 years. During this time, Sarralle has carried out more than 50 projects for ArcelorMittal worldwide. In the short term, Sarralle will include the AM/NS Calvert project in its portfolio of large front-line international projects, as well as other projects carried out in the United States, in SDI Roanoke and Nucor Birmingham, among others.

• SARRALLE commissions the new EAF at NUCOR STEEL Birmingham (USA) (Mar 09, 2021)

  In spite of the global circumstances, Sarralle has successfully completed the conversion of Nucor Birmingham’s spout EAF to an EBT design. The enhanced furnace now features single point roof lifting, current conducting arms, water-cooled panels for the roof and upper shell, along with many other automation upgrades.

  The execution of the project included the basic and detailed engineering design, manufacturing at SARRALLE’s own workshops in Northern Spain. Even under severe internal COVID-19 travel restrictions, SARRALLE met the challenge by adapting and assisted with the civil works, erection supervision, and start-up, and round the clock commissioning services remotely from our Spanish headquarters assisted by our US team.

  The project was awarded in June 2019 with the delivery of the equipment scheduled to be on site by March 2020; followed by start-up and commissioning in April 2020. After a short unscheduled installation delay the field work began August 2020. This furnace upgrade brings significant improvements to the Melt Shop operation, safety, and all the advantages the EBT concept offers, including increased productivity, decreased slag entering the ladle, and reduced ferroalloy usage.

  With the successful commissioning and enhanced commissioning efforts between Nucor and Sarralle project teams, in spite of this pandemic, Sarralle now has successfully entered the North American market with their first EAF.

• APERAM awards SARRALLE two metal coil processing plants modernization (Mar 09, 2021)

  SARRALLE has been awarded two projects in France and Germany for the international APERAM Group consisting of the improvement and modernization of the plants dedicated to the transformation of stainless steel flat products.

  APERAM FRANCE

  The project for APERAM Isbergues (France) will allow the group to increase the capacity of its LC2I process line, virtually unique in the world in the treatment of hot-rolled stainless steel of continuous rolling, pickling and finishing of stainless steel. The installation processes continuously stainless steel, doing the pickling, rolling, normalizing, skin pass and flattened under tension, resulting in first quality coils ready for final sale. The start-up of this new line was carried out at the beginning of the current year and the work is the result of SARRALLE's engineering study to modernize the facilities of APERAM France.

  APERAM GERMANY

  The project for APERAM Haan (Germany) will allow this group to completely renovate its current facilities in Duisburg and transfer it to the new facilities located in Haan at 50 kilometres.

  This is a complex project in which SARRALLE will manufacture new machines for APERAM, improve and modernize the existing ones and also renew the cross-sectional line of the APERAM Duisburg plant. Precisely this line will be dismantled from its current location plant and transferred to the new location, with a total change in the distribution of material flow allowing a very important logistics improvement.

  The OCEVI cutting line is a stainless cutting line that manufactures sheet steel for multiple applications, such as the food industry, industrial processes, catering, elevators and stairs, and so on.

  SARRALLE considers these two projects strategic, given that it involves the expansion of its metal coil processing division in the European market.

• SARRALLE signs the new Slag Treatment and Recovery plant with PHOENIX SERVICES, auxiliary company of ACERINOX (Mar 09, 2021)

  SARRALLE Environment & Energy is very proud to announce our latest achievement in the Waste Recycling sector. The treatment and recovery of steel mill slag is still one of the most challenging operational process to develop and with the exceptional opportunity provided by Phoenix Services, we reassert to the commitment on the sustainability of the metallurgic industry.

  Phoenix Services the global leader in steel mill services, provides world class services and sustainable solutions to the global steel industry. Phoenix Services strives to implement the latest equipment and technology, all operated by expert technicians.

  Today, Sarralle commits to the EPC project for the treatment and recovery of steel mill slag of more than 200.000 Tns. at Acerinox Palmones (Spain). The signature of the agreement with Phoenix Services involved more than a year of continuous communications with our engineering team. The turnkey project includes the design, engineering, automatization & control, mechanical equipment, manufacturing, civil works, commissioning and start-up of the whole plant.

  Acerinox Palmones (Spain) will count with the state-of-the-art equipment, operated by experts like Phoenix Services and ensuring Sarralle is providing the best solution for the most efficient waste treatment plant. In 2022, Acerinox will be able to treat all the waste generated in their manufacturing process.

  This is our first project with Phoenix Services. However, Sarralle is excited about their expansion objectives in Spain and Europe and we hope to continue working together.

• Sarralle Continues to Expand in the United States with a New Contract to Supply a Steel Slitting Line for North American Stainless (NAS) (Apr 12, 2021)

  Sarralle takes another important leap forward in North America building on its other recent successes and working to grow as a strategic supplier to the country's large steel manufacturers demonstrated with a new contract at North American Stainless (NAS), the Acerinox Group. This is the second major contract that Sarralle was awarded in the United States after reaching an agreement with Arcelor Mittal and Nippon Steel Corporation (AM / NS Calvert) to supply a completely new steelmaking plant in Alabama. Specifically, the contract with NAS is to supply a new fully automated state-of-the-art slitting line for the processing of coils manufactured at NAS’s facility. The new line will be delivered to the Kentucky site where Sarralle will provide the assembly and commissioning services expected to take place in the first quarter of 2022.

  Production Details

  Sarralle will design and manufacture a new slitting line for NAS (from 0.4 to 3.0 mm thick), capable of processing coils up to 35 Tn and allow NAS to increase its plant output. To maintain the projects tight schedule, Sarralle will work simultaneously in its Azpeitia manufacturing plant to modernize equipment coming from Acerinox France (dismantled and transferred to Azpeitia for renovation) along with the design and construction of the Sarralle’s new machinery.

  Additionally, Sarralle will take control of the installation and assembly services (mechanical, hydraulic and electrical) including the manufacture of the new electrical control cabinets. The new line will be fully automated, with a new PLC and a Level II interface to the existing ERP at NAS, thus ensuring the best product quality of the line. This new investment further consolidates NAS as a leading manufacturer of stainless steel for products and services of the highest quality and reaffirms Sarralle as an ally for large steel manufacturers worldwide.

  With the recognition of the NAS contract, Sarralle takes another step forward in the American market to confirm our continued commitment as an EPC supplier and partner to the most relevant world class stainless - steel manufacturers.
