Thordon Bearings Inc. is the proven leader in the cruise industry’s return to seawater lubricated propeller shaft bearing solutions offering the lowest CAPEX and OPEX and a lifetime bearing wearlife guarantee. Fitted on over 2000 ships, Thordon seawater lubricated propeller shaft bearing systems eliminate oil emissions from shaftlines and pods, provide excellent operational and wear performance, and offer low operational and maintenance costs.  Water lubricated bearings eliminate the aft seal and the need for storage, sampling, and disposal of oil.  Manufactured to the same exacting standards as our high performing range of Thordon bearings, the SeaThigor forward seal uses the highest quality, hard wearing, silicon carbide faces and our proprietary elastomeric polymers to offer the best combination of strength/stiffness and reliability.

We also offer grease-free ThorPlas-Blue deck equipment bearings for lifeboat/tender davits, fairleads, winches, gangway and ramp bushings. This eliminates unsightly grease and reduces labour safety maintenance issues.

    Compliant Operation
Extended shaft withdrawal notations are approved for all class societies with the exception of NK and KR (as they don’t have these notations). This allows the propeller shaft for open water lubricated systems to remain in place if monitoring conditions are met. Extended shaft withdrawal notations ensure technical equivalence of the COMPAC system with oil lubricated propeller shaft systems. Thordon’s COMPAC system assures ship owners/operators that there will be no environmental violations resulting from stern tube oil leakage and meets both US VIDA and Polar Code regulations guaranteeing zero risk of pollution.

    Reliable Operation with Lowest OPEX
The use of an open seawater lubricated propeller shaft bearing system on cruise ships can permanently eliminate operational and accidental oil emissions from a vessel’s propulsion system. An open propeller shaft bearing system lubricated entirely by seawater is the only truly sustainable solution for ship owners that want to meet all future ship emission regulations, while significantly reducing their OPEX and ensuring reliable, safe operation for the life of the vessel.
