The Port System Authority of the Western Sicilian Sea is a public body whose primary tasks are to direct, plan, coordinate and promote port operations and other commercial and industrial activities in the ports of Palermo, Termini Imerese, Trapani and Porto Empedocle. The Authority is dedicated to continuous improvement and high-quality facilities to meet the increase in services and to strengthen the overall port efficiency. In the port of Palermo a series of modernization interventions are under way to better accommodate XL class ships, satisfy passenger expectations and guarantee all safety measures according to the European standards. In the port of Termini Imerese the Authority is planning to attract ro-ro traffic for connections with central and northern Italy and promote niche cruises. A requalification plan will affect also the ports of Trapani and Porto Empedocle in order to improve cruise area, adequate dredging and enhance facilities such as passengers’ terminals and services.  Palermo and its ports are a must-see destination.
