In the last year, Madeira Port Authority put into practice a set of investments that boosted the resumption of its activity and even its growth. In the middle of a pandemic situation, Madeira Ports invested close to €2M, with emphasis on the equipment to support the cruise operation ensuring the control and screening of COVID-19, in a new infrastructure of a passenger terminal on the North Pier of the Port of Funchal and the rebrand of the brand “Portos da Madeira – Your Safe Port” in a clear demonstration of commitment to the Industry, in whose recovery he always believed.
In this context, Madeira Ports developed a set of initiatives, which began to be designed even in the midst of the pandemic in 2020, with the preparation of a 2Management Plan for Cruise Activity”, under which the entire operation was redesigned to adapt all port infrastructures to a new reality, culminating with the first port at national level to be certified by SGS, for “Good Practices in Biological Hazards”, as well to be ready to “open doors” to receive cruise ships calls.
The new signature “Your Safe Port”, and all the promotional material developed (film, brochures, merchandising and international digital campaign), intends to reflect all this investment, demonstrating that Madeira Ports are safe gateways in the Atlantic Corridor.
As a result, Madeira Ports, between October 1, 2021 and May 31, 2022, registered a total of movements of: 294 cruise ship stopovers, 273 514 passengers and 170 966 crew members, which made possible to finish the high season with an increase in the number of cruise calls compared to 2018/19, one of the best seasons ever.
