  • Allied Mineral Products, Inc. Acquires Riverside Refractories, Inc.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Allied Mineral Products, Inc. has purchased Riverside Refractories, Inc. This acquisition will allow Allied to increase its manufacturing presence in the Southeast, add taphole clay to its growing line of industry-leading refractory products and expand its sales into the steel industry.  The sale includes Riverside’s Pell City, Alabama manufacturing operation, monolithic and pre-cast refractory shapes products, refractory coatings and mortars and high-alumina and anhydrous taphole clay products.

“Riverside is a natural to join the Allied family,” said Jon R. Tabor, Chairman and CEO of Allied.  “They have outstanding products, expertise in the manufacture of taphole clays, a skilled workforce, and an employee-driven culture that is a perfect fit with Allied’s. After our recent acquisition of Pryor Giggey Co., which included a facility in Anniston, Alabama, Allied is poised for a significant manufacturing presence in the Southeast.”

Allied’s acquisition of Riverside creates opportunities to offer the Riverside product lines to a broader customer base in the United States and newly into international markets. Riverside’s domestic presence complements Allied’s existing US operations and will allow Allied to offer its customers more options for regionalized manufacturing and sales support.

“Riverside has been owned and operated by the Morris family for three generations. We are proud of what we and our employees have accomplished over the years,” said John Morris, President of Riverside.  “As the marketplace continues to be more competitive, we realized we needed to align with a strong company to ensure we could continue to serve our customers and provide security for our employees. With this sale, we know our customers and employees will benefit and that was very important to us. We are excited that Allied’s global manufacturing network and worldwide sales presence will provide a platform to market the Riverside product lines internationally. We could not be in better hands.”

“The Morris family has been a force in the refractory industry for over 60 years,” added Tabor. “We have great respect for what they have achieved at Riverside. There is great value in the brand and in the name, and we look forward to carrying on their tradition of great products and customer service.”

Riverside’s production facility in Pell City, Alabama joins Allied’s existing US manufacturing operations in Columbus, Ohio; Brownsville, Texas; Chehalis, Washington and Anniston, Alabama.

  • Allied Mineral Products to own and supply select Graftech products

COLUMBUS, Ohio: Allied Mineral Products, Inc., a global refractory manufacturer, has purchased the intellectual property rights to a collection of refractory cements and pastes previously owned by Graftech Advanced Graphite Materials.

The purchase is in response to restructuring at Graftech Advanced Graphite Materials, which ended production of several staple products for the steel, ferroalloy and iron industries. Allied seized the opportunity to meet market needs.  It will now own and supply eight key products - including carbon and graphite based cements, ramming materials and grout - from the Graftech line.

“The acquisition of these product formulas complements ongoing initiatives at Allied and in our technical services group, AMTS, Inc.,” says Paul Jamieson, president of Allied. “They build out an existing line of installer-friendly products that will further enhance and compliment the refractory solutions we offer to our customers.”

Allied will market its new products under existing trade names, such as C34 Cement and C46 Cement.  These products will join Allied’s existing product line of clean-carbon mortars, grouts and ramming materials, marketed under the “HC” name. By offering two product lines to the niche applications, Allied is positioned to serve both current and new markets in the United States and internationally.
