History
Long before airline check-in kiosks, and automated kiosks that vend everything from travel necessities to Apple® products, the first Smarte Carte luggage carts and Cart Management Units rolled into airports, introducing travelers to the convenience of self-service.
In 1967 our founder, Jim Muellner of White Bear Lake, Minnesota, was commissioned to design and engineer the first self-serve luggage cart vending machine. By 1970 Smarte Carte, Inc. officially opened its doors bringing self-serve luggage cart operations to Salt Lake City, Minneapolis, and Los Angeles.
Since then, for over 50 years, Smarte Carte has been the world’s leading operator of self-serve luggage carts, massage chairs, wheelchairs, electronic lockers, strollers, and airport services for the travel and leisure industry. Our products and services can be found at more than 2,500 facilities worldwide: including airports, malls, amusement parks, waterparks, fitness clubs, train and bus terminals, zoos, hotels, and ski resorts.
