British Airways has been flying passengers to locations all over the world for over 100 years. Working together for years, Tensator® products can be found in their sites all over the globe.
Preparing for take-off At the beginning of 2022, British Airways approached us with a request to supply standard signage products, aimed at improving their passenger wayfinding. After reaching out, and some initial conversations, both Tensator® and British Airways realised the potential of the project. By working together with our client, the range of products included within the project increased. The project evolved from an offering of standard Tensator® products, to a range including fully customised items designed to meet their requirements.
Flying high Travel restrictions were being lifted, which meant the South Terminal at Gatwick was soon to be re-opened. Acting quickly, Tensator® worked with the airline to ensure their new products and passenger queue management solutions were installed. Closed for 2 years due to the pandemic, the reopening of Gatwick’s South Terminal was an excellent way for British Airways to show off their stunning new branding and how they are using our products to inform their passengers. Not long after, we also installed the products in Heathrow T3 Terminal, London City airport, and most recently Heathrow T5. Four terminals set up and ready for passengers within less than 6 months. A smooth landing Specification is one of the most important factors for airports, and our posts and barriers meet the rigid ASIAD criteria set by the UK Department of Transport.
Our stainless steel posts are hard-wearing and high-quality while the black webbing is a timeless option which won’t go out of fashion. Alongside this world-leading barrier solution, our customisable InQ Totems®, sign holders, and banners ensured the passenger messaging was clear. Additionally, from this collaboration with British Airways, we designed the Retrofit InQ Totem®. Customisable like the freestanding counterpart, this new product must fit over and be secured to an existing Tensabarrier® post.

These needed to be visible from distance and easy to assemble or disassemble by local BA teams. We developed the Retrofit InQ-Totem® to be quickly fixed around an existing Tensabarrier® product to create a highly visible piece of signage. The aim of this product is to help passengers quickly navigate the boarding process at departure gates without relying on staff intervention. Hopefully, these new pieces will provide a positive passenger experience.”
