The Center for Brains, Minds and Machines (CBMM), based on the MIT campus, is a Science and Technology Center funded by the National Science Foundation that focuses on the interdisciplinary study of intelligence.

The center is a multi-institutional research and educational collaboration that integrates cognitive science, neuroscience, computer science, and artificial intelligence, to understand how the human mind process sensory information to produce intelligent behavior, and how to design computer algorithms to make intelligent computers.

CBMM is very committed to increasing the number of women and under-represented minorities in computational neuroscience, and offers a number of opportunities for students and faculty of all STEM disciplines to explore and learn about CBMM’s research:

  • 10-week summer research internships in computational and cognitive neuroscience
  • Week-long Workshop on Computational Methods and tools used in experimental data analysis (MATLAB and Python)
  • Summer Sabbatical for faculty from Minority-Serving Institutions
  • On-line lectures and seminars
  • 3-week Brains Minds and Machines summer course for graduate students
