Vigo has been historically linked to cruise traffic because of its location and deep waters inside a naturally sheltered estuary protected by Cíes Island National Park. The Port’s commitment with security and infrastructures development have strengthen its relevance in the Spanish Atlantic coast for the largest cruise ships; embarking and disembarking, turnaround and multiple calls.
Cruise traffic in Vigo is carried out at the city center within a large pedestrian area framed by two cruise terminals with a total 1,000m berthing line and drafts over 9m with all services available.
Promotion of destination, quality standards, innovation and development of shorex offer are the focus of the project for cruise traffic that the Port of Vigo is pioneering within the EU Blue Growth Project 2020.
2018 will be the year of the welcoming to Vigo of Viking Cruise lines, but also the comeback of other important companies, such as Carnival, NCL or Disney Magic. In 2018 RCCL Independence of the Seas will turn the most frequent visitor in Vigo’s cruise history: 135 calls in ten years bringing to Vigo more than 700,000 visitors; undoubtedly a beloved reference for the port and the city.
