The Foundation for Teaching Economics offers Economics for Leaders (EFL), a week-long residential program on college campuses, during the summer. The program is opened to high school sophomores and juniors.

EFL teaches that economics is an essential tool for effective leadership. Participants actively engage in developing their understanding of economics and leadership theory and learn to use economics to think critically about their own choices and those choices made by others in the world around them. Through interactive challenges, students also experience the four stages of team formation: forming, storming, norming, and performing. Perspective, consensus building, and decision-making are other skills practiced during the week.

EFL also provides other benefits. Participants spend a week on a university campus, experiencing life in a residence hall.  They receive instruction from university professors and have the option of earning two semester hours of undergraduate credit in economics. Perhaps the most enduring benefit, however, is that participants form friendships that can last a lifetime.
