LaBrenda Garrett-Nelson is a retired lawyer and board-certified genealogist who writes and lectures on African American families in the South, primarily the Carolinas. Her book, entitled “A Guide to Researching African American Families in Laurens County, South Carolina, and Selected Finding Aids” was published in July of 2016, and was hailed by a 20 November 2016 review in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution as a model for research in any SC county and other states.
