The VAI Graduate School (VAIGS) is a distinct PhD program in cell and molecular genetics. As a small graduate school housed within a biomedical reserach institute, VAIGS can offer students a unique, highly interactive experience. The innovative problem based learning curriculum leads students to a strong foundation in core concepts and experimental design. Rotations in several labs will expose you to different areas of research. Seminars and workshops provide professional development on topics such as scientific writing, grant proposals, oral presentations, financial and personnel management, conflict resolution, leadership, and team-building. Teaching experiences and time at neighboring hospitals for clinical Grand Rounds or Tumor Board meetings can also enrich your experience.
We offer a curriculum that will lead you to develop your skills in designing innovative approaches to research; faculty that will challenge you with a rich mix of theoretical and practical perspectives; a small class size; thesis research that will take shape in a highly interactive and collaborative setting; a guaranteed stipend for a full five years, & more.
