The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston educates biomedical researchers and caregivers who advance human health through research and patient care. UTMB is an academic health science center with a Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (GSBS), School of Medicine, School of Nursing, School of Health Professions, 4 institutes and many research centers of excellence housed in 78 major buildings. The GSBS has >400 students in 12 doctoral training programs – biochemistry & molecular biology, cell biology, clinical science, experimental pathology, human pathophysiology & translational medicine, medical humanities, microbiology & immunology, neuroscience, nursing, pharmacology & toxicology, population health science, and rehabilitation science. Combined MD/PhD and PhD/MPH programs also are available. UTMB hosts the Galveston National Laboratory, which focuses on highly infectious pathogens (BSL3/4).
