At the University of Maryland School of Medicine, the goal of the Medical Scientist Training Program, is to provide outstanding aspiring medical scientists with broad biomedical training. This experience consists of rigorous research training in the basic sciences, resulting in a PhD complemented by inter-related clinical training that leads to the MD degree. The Graduate Programs in Life Sciences include the following disciplines: biochemistry and molecular biology, epidemiology and human genetics, molecular medicine, microbiology and immunology and neuroscience. Students can also receive a PhD in Bioengineering at the University of Maryland College Park campus. These programs emphasize the continuum from bench to bedside to population. Graduates of our program can combine the medical needs of society with scientific opportunities in an efficient manner to address important health problems. The clinician/investigators from our program are well equipped to become future leaders in medical research.
