The University of Kentucky is ranked among the top universities in the country in terms of its biomedical research programs.  Having recently received National Institutes of Health Cancer Center Designation, the University of Kentucky leads the way in research affecting the course of patient treatment. The Integrated Biomedical Sciences Program is the first-year undifferentiated core curriculum for students seeking doctoral degrees in biomedical research. The first-year, students have the opportunity to rotate through various labs and to work alongside nearly 200 faculty to identify their interest in the field.  Students are then able to join one of eight basic science departments in pursuit of their doctoral degree. The MD/PhD has trained men and women for careers as independent physician scientists and leaders in academic medicine, industry, and government. Our students are distinguished by talent, creativity and commitment to becoming the very best physician-scientists.
