Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX offers the SMART summer undergraduate research program, the research oriented SMART PREP post-baccalaureate program, 12 Ph.D. programs, a M.D., Ph.D. Program, Allied Health Programs, medical degrees, the IRACDA research/teaching post-doc program, post-doctoral positions, residency programs and the National School of Tropical Medicine. More than 80 under-represented (UR) students are pursuing Ph.D.s or M.D./Ph.Ds. UR students have a more than 80% retention rate to the Ph.D. and have won more than 360 academic and research awards, including 60 national fellowships. 110 Ph.D.'s have been awarded to UR students, 16 of them M.D./Ph.D.s since 1998. Thirty percent of UR grads who have completed the post-doc are in academic positions at research-intensive institutions. Most of the remaining grads are in biotech. IRACDA post-docs conduct frontier level research, have a publication rate similar to non-IRACDA BCM US post-docs, and advance to jobs in academic institutions.
