Cardiovascular Disease is the No. 1 killer in America. The AHA strongly believes that learning more about these diseases is the best way to reduce death and disability. Therefore research is an association wide priority and vital to the achievement of our 2020 Impact Goal to improve the cardiovascular health of all Americans by 20% while reducing deaths from cardiovascular disease and stroke by 20%. The AHA has carved a niche in supporting the development of new investigators and offering innovative funding mechanisms to stimulate research in promising areas of cardiovascular science. AHA's Early Career and metoring programs encourage and assist promising students and junior faculty as they seek to embark upon and establish successful careers in science. Through this program we provide educational programs, awards/scholarships, student and early career research funding, and mentoring opportunities to support the ongoing training and development of individuals in the early stages of their career.
