An international manufacturer of fine and specialty chemicals, Vertellus is boosting production of Vitride, a liquid reducing agent used in the manufacture of several complex drugs that treat human and animal health conditions. Recent investments by Vertellus in the Zeeland, Michigan (USA) plant have optimized capacity and increased production of Vitride. The enhancements include upgrades to equipment, investments in production automation systems for improved productivity, and quality management practices. Vertellus Business Director Jim Keay says the upgrades target a pickup in global demand for Sodium Dihydrobis (2-methoxyethoxy) aluminumhydride (SDMA), which the company expects to continue. The demand is from customers producing sophisticated pharmaceutical APIs, as well as personal care manufacturers. “We’ve essentially fine-tuned internal processes and resources to consistently meet escalating demand for Vitride,” Keay says. Vitride is a liquid metal hydride reagent, favored for its stability, and ease of use. “As Vitride is a critical component in the manufacture of APIs for many acute and chronic diseases, Vertellus is committed to responsibly investing in infrastructure and delivering output that supports growing demand,” says Keay. The enhancements at the Zeeland production site position Vertellus to consistently supply global customers directly and through preferred channel partners with regional stocking points.
